Bibliomaniac (a definition)

Mr. Webster is going to define a word for me here...

(This is how I imagine Mr. Webster to look. Anyone else?)

bib·lio·ma·nia:  \ˌbi-blē-ə-ˈmā-nē-ə, -nyə\ - extreme preoccupation with collecting books. 

So does that make us bibliomaniacs? I am pretty certain it does. It has to mean that! Through all my life people would always ask a silly getting-to-know-you question, one that I never thought I could answer. What do you collect? The thing was I didn't collect anything. Not stamps. Not Legos. Not Baseball cards. Not even those weird/fancy barbie dolls (What is the point of having a doll you can't play with?!?!?).

 I am a book collector.

How simple is that? Books. Books. Books. I love holding them, and remembering reading them. I love remembering what was going on in my life at the time that I read them. What makes us love them so much? What makes diving into a story so awesome that it leaves us in tears or giddy laughter? I don't think there is an answer. I mean you can come up with a million possible and probable answers, but when it comes down to it is there really one definite answer?

Magical Places

Rants of Magical Proportions 

When I was little I would always try and go to magical places. Usually I convinced myself I was there. As I got older these places turned into the places in books. Narnia or Hogwarts, it didn't matter as long as it was some cool place where magic lives. 

You see I think we are all still looking for that place, that place we can escape to in our minds where things are magical and awe-inspiring. We still hope that these places exist, and by all means necessary we are going to prove they live on. We still shout "FOR NARNIA" in our heads or out loud when fighting for a good cause (admit it you do this!!) . We still hear a train whistle and hope we haven't missed the Hogwarts Express. These places do live on. They live on inside of us, in our heads, and they always will. 

So what are my favorite 'places' to visit? Now that is a question I love to answer!

Hogwarts- forever and always

Narnia- I wander what it would be like to grow a book tree at the beginning of Narnia?

Olympus- Not just Olympus but camp half blood and all the other Percy Jackson places. 

Panem- Katniss opens your eyes to all the glory of this world. 

Divergent- A recent favorite but it's epic all the same.

The bad guys we love to hate but find out they are actually good

So for this weeks topic I could only think of two characters who fit the bill. I am talking about the bad good guy. **If you haven't read Harry Potter all the way through or The Iron Fey series I would suggest you not read this post due to spoilers**

Severus Snape:

The professor we are genetically inclined to hate. (please do me a favor and not ask why I said that) Through the whole series Snape and Harry hate each other. From his first year at Hogwarts Harry assumes Snape is bad, and it's not like Snape tries to be nice or anything. The fact of the matter is that Snape was in love with Harry's mom Lily and could see that little amount of Lily in Harry. So he was mad. By the end of the series you see that despite what Harry thought Snape WAS good. 

IRON HORSE:

WHEN EVER SOMEONE DOES ALL CAPS I THINK THEY ARE IRON HORSE!! So in the first one he is her enemy, the one she is trying to get away from. But through twists and turns he ends up having to help Megan. He is one of the most loyal characters and what he does is amazing. I really want not to spoil so uh read the books so we can discuss his Epicosity. Just know he is a good horse. :)

Sidekicks who kick butt

So Dallin and I decided that though we love main characters sometimes they get too much glory. That means today is all about the sidekick. You know those characters that make the book funny or are totally loyal (or both!!) So we have picked the three we deem the best! 

Up to bat first is Grover from The Percy Jackson series. After deciding to do this post we both racked our brains for who would be best, we both fully agreed to put Grover on. He is one who eats cans, drinks way too much coffee, has a pure heart, and is a joker. He provides Percy with a loyal always-there friend. The thing is Grover sets the bar high so it was difficult to come up with more characters and they all had to go through the are-they-as-good-as-Grover-test? 

My personal choice of best side kick was Jenna from The Hex Hall series. This girl knows loyal, because that’s what she is every step of the way. I love her and Sophie’s friendship, it rocks. They are the misfits of Hex Hall but they have each other. Jenna is a pink loving, blonde haired vampire. She is one of the coolest vampires I have met in my literary travels and kick butt to boot. Epic sidekick, for sure!

Dallin’s choice is… you guessed it! A Harry Potter character! Who though you ask? Not the brilliantly smart Hermione, nay nay, but Ron. He feels that Ron is a very witty and enjoyable sidekick. Yes they have their fights but his loyalty is priceless. Not to mention he has a rather hot sister. (His words not mine!!)

We are talking triangles today

Topic: The Love Triangle

Okay let me start out by clarifying: It is not a TRIANGLE it is a V a big fat, stupid V. 

Here is the logic 

The Triangle:

Triangle= Girl likes Boy1 + Girl likes Boy2 + Boy1 likes Boy2

or 

Triangle = Girl likes Boy1 + Girl likes Boy2 + Boy1 is friends with Boy2

The V:

A Love V= Girl likes Boy1 + Girl like Boy 2

I don't know what you were taught but that is how I see it. 

Now I must share my opinion of said and clarified Love V. I HATE THEM!! Yep that will do it. Oh you want me to explain? Okay. Some girls are having a hard enough time finding one guy, how is it that most female literary character have two perspective loves?  It bugs me that these character fall into insta-love (that is another post)  then realize they also love this other person too. I get that you CAN love multiple people but it doesn't sit well with me. That is all.

Yes these books are all wonderful, but they all have that twisted V. I just don't like it but it will always be in books so I guess I just have to deal with it.

I know what you are thinking... really? him?


YES I SCREAM YES!! I love how the whole story about Harry could have been about Nevil, but by a twist of fate it wasn't . I love how when Nevil is truly need he is a brave-hearted leader as Harry is. I adore how he has courage, courage enough to stand up to his friends. I find his passion, Herbology, fascinating.  Basically I wish JK had written some of Nevil's last year at Hogwarts just because I would have LOVED to read it from his view. Sure Harry's story is amazing but something about Nevil's change excites me. Makes one think you can be the worlds greatest screw up BUT in the end you can still be something great. 


So yes my literary crush is Nevil Longbottom.
