Fixated Friday:The Liar Society Playlist

Before I knew of the Liar Society two sisters got together and said hey lets write a book. So they did. The Liar Society was the product. While they were busy writing they used this playlist to inspire. So enjoy (I know they already posted this but I figured why not? Oh and my little story there could just be my imagination.)

Blog tour: Mieradome by Kate Hegarty

Interview with Kate Hegarty

What was your latest epic win? (a small but meaningful accomplishment like finding a bag of Bertie Bott’s while packing)
Epic Win: seeing the cover of my novel in my local paper’s Scene section!

Epic fail? (basically this is an embarrassing moment that you can laugh at now)
Epic Fail: I am a big klutz. Lol! I trip over EVERYTHING! (I’m working on that…)

What are your thoughts on your book being turned into a movie?
I think it would fantastic if my novel was turned into a movie. I personally think animation would be the best fit for my story because of all the unique creatures who live in Mieradome, land of the faeries.

What is the last book you read?
A Maze of Grace (a memoir) by Trish Ryan

In three words describe yourself:
Persistent
Creative
Funny

One question you wish you had a definitive answer to:
Did the chicken ever figure out how to cross the road?

A quote you live by:
live happy : )

In Your Perfect World…
Traveling to different places would be mandatory for school (and paid for!)

If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
I would love to be able to fly! I think I channeled that love of the breeze and swift air with my character Ditto #3 who is a postal bird in Mieradome, and brings people vocal telegrams.

If given a time machine would you go back to the past or into the future?

I would definitely travel back to the past. The 1920’s specifically. I love that era.

Do you have any projects in the works? If so can you tell us about any of them?
I am working on finishing the sequel to Mieradome which is called The Saskatoon Balloon and we already have a trailer out for it!!

Trailer for Saskatoon Balloon

Waiting on Wednesday: Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

I'm still waiting...

Cover:

Description:
Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story. . .

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life

What Drew me in?

At first glance it was the cover but once I did some research into it I realized the description was just as creepy and compelling. [YES creepy is a good thing to me]. *goes to stare at cover*

The Miles Between by Mary E Pearson

Description:

Destiny Faraday makes a point of keeping her distance from her classmates at Hedgebrook Academy. Her number-one rule: Don’t get attached. But one day, unexpectedly finding a car at their disposal, Destiny and three of her classmates embark on an unauthorized road trip.

They’re searching for one fair day—a day where the good guy wins and everything adds up to something just and right. Their destination: Langdon, a town that Destiny’s unsuspecting companions hope will hold simply a day of fun. But, as Destiny says, “Things are not always what they seem.” Only she knows that Langdon holds far more than that—a deep secret she has never shared with anyone.

The Miles Between explores the wonder and magic of a very real world where chance, mystery, and secrets abound.

Epic Wins:
  • I started this book and was glued... like I couldn't put it down, even to go to the bathroom or eat.
  • I loved the one fair day concept. One day when everything goes right.
  • A big pink car, four teenagers, secrets, and one fair day collide in this epic and weaving story. This book is basically about what happens when these things come together in a funky pattern.
  • I mention this in almost every review but I love when a book pulls the rug out from under your feet [aka: Twists and Turns, twisty turns, and climax(es)]. This book pulled the rug out from under my feet, rolled me up in it, and unrolled me down a hill.
  • Destiny's one rule is don't get attached. She is the wild card, the catalyst on this fair day adventure. I love how she calculates coincidences. Through the book you pick up little bits of her past but can't truly unlock it till the end.
  • Mira is that sunshine girl. No matter what she is a sweetheart and cares. She is the best sort of friend because she forgives so easily. If you need someone on your side she is the one who will be there.
  • Aiden hates how destiny is always calculating coincidences , he even tries to combat with the theory of impossibly large numbers. He reminds me of a male Hermione. Nobody really knows what compelled him to join the little adventure but he did.
  • Seth is the chameleon, he tries to blend in, make friends with everyone, and hide. A stark contrast to Destiny who, thought blends in, avoids people in general. He is well subtle.
  • Lucky- The lamb- I mean dog. They are driving and all the sudden there he is.
  • The wacky wild adventure they end up on while trying to find one fair day.
  • Breakfast club meets modern day and a big pink car. Four students brought together by fate and Destiny (hehehe) It all wraps up nice and neat coincidently :)
  • How one day, a car, a lamb, a peacock, and all things fair can bring four people into not only a bonding friendship but to level ground.
  • Can't for get the love story... Aiden and Mira's relationship it rock solid and obvious but Seth and Destiny's takes its time and is subtle.
  • Be warned you will cry (unless you are heartless or have a condition where you can't make tears) Or maybe I am just a weeper :P
Epic Fails:

  • No bad guys or sex so I say :P
Overall:

A tear jerking tale of loss, coincidences, and one fair day. SERIOUSLY LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

Quotes:
[ "I flunked kindergarten".

Seth hoots "A kindergarten rebel! Look what lurks beneath the geekage" ] p. 43-44

"How would one fair day make a difference? ...Hope , belief, justice, order, courage, power, redemption. But mostly it gives you wholeness. The broken and loose ends of your life finally blend with the sound ones and create the texture of who you are. Tattered but whole. And maybe if you could see the back side of anyones life they would all have a degree of fraying" p. 230-231

[ "And Destiny came and got me" Seth says in a gulping breath.] p. 259

Moving: The Good, The Bad, and The Cute

So this is a boring post about how I wont really be posting much. If you wish to ditch this post I don't blame you, but I have added these cute box people as entertainment so if you want just look at them. (they are SO cute)

Hey there!

So I mentioned a while back that I was moving. Well apparently moving is a lot harder then I thought. The days of doing nothing but packing, the fact that I can't sign up for giveaways, the UPS man never visits me, and the stress never occurred to me. So I have been on edge waiting.

The Good News?
I have less then two weeks

The Bad News?
I have less then two weeks

I think I would have been fine if I didn't realize that with out a house I won't have internet. At least not for a while till we find a place. If I am scarce on the blog then you now know why. [Interpret as: I AM NOT IGNORING YOU!!!]

So my rambling post stops here.

Okay maybe here :D

Waiting on Wednesday: Invincible

Cover:

Description:

The second novel in the new teen series, The Chronicles of Nick, a spin-off from the blockbuster Dark-Hunter series--from #1 New York Timesbestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon

Nick Gautier’s day just keeps getting better and better. Yeah, he survived the zombie attacks, only to wake up and find himself enslaved to a world of shapeshifters and demons out to claim his soul.

His new principal thinks he’s even more of a hoodlum than the last one, his coach is trying to recruit him to things he can’t even mention and the girl he’s not seeing, but is, has secrets that terrify him.

But more than that, he’s being groomed by the darkest of powers and if he doesn’t learn how to raise the dead by the end of the week, he will become one of them...

My Thoughts:

Okay so I read the first one and I thought it was like AMAZING! It had sarcastic humor (my favorite kind),  action like crazy (it was only like over a three day period but so much happened!) , and it had a pinch of romance. I loved the way it was written so I was ecstatic when I found out there was a second one coming out!

Invincible will be published by St. Martin's Press on March 22, 2011

Wither by Lauren DeStefano

Description:

What if you knew exactly when you would die?

Thanks to modern science, every human being has become a ticking genetic time bomb—males only live to age twenty-five, and females only live to age twenty. In this bleak landscape, young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamous marriages to keep the population from dying out.

When sixteen-year-old Rhine Ellery is taken by the Gatherers to become a bride, she enters a world of wealth and privilege. Despite her husband Linden's genuine love for her, and a tenuous trust among her sister wives, Rhine has one purpose: to escape—to find her twin brother and go home.

But Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. Linden's eccentric father is bent on finding an antidote to the genetic virus that is getting closer to taking his son, even if it means collecting corpses in order to test his experiments. With the help of Gabriel, a servant Rhine is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to break free, in the limted time she has left.

Quote:
"A stranger passing by would think we had been together for years, that we planned to live the rest of our lives together. I always knew I was an excellent liar; I just didn't know I had it in me to fool myself" p. 318 (ARC copy)

Epic Wins:
  • We start with the concept. Ticking time bombs, genetically engineered to death, and polygamous marriages make this book an intrigue. I took a class called bio-tech , there was a unit on genetic engineering and we discussed what could come from it. So when I read the description I was hooked.
  • Gabriel was one of my favorite characters. I was practically in love with him myself! He was sweet, had a passion, and he was understanding.
  • Jenna is the character I connected with the most. She was quiet, read, and was a grudge holder. She was also totally not like me as in she was cunning, could act, and dance (not coordinated). She went from asking for a trampoline to planning an escape.
  • The mansion sounded awesome! Rhine thought of it as a cage but I have to admit it was a cool cage. A holographic pool, a huge library of books, and gourmet meals? Like Jenna said  "Why not die in style".
  • Rose was great. She impacted Rhine's world in such a short time. I loved the relationship that develops between the two. And the irony.
  • Rhine. First I love her name. Second I had some issues with her wavering feelings but I loved her nonetheless. She is sort of butt-kicking material with bravery to boot. I loved her love (?) for her brother. She would do anything to get to him, that is true family.
  • Linden. He isn't bad just ignorant. He is basically a sweetheart. Never pushing and always asking what they need.
  • Cicely. Young. Too young. She makes some mistakes but redeems herself, otherwise I would have put her on the list below.
  • Rowan. You only get little memories of him but I like him. He was like the hope, the light that she needed to get herself out of the cage.
Epic Fails:
  • First you need to know I LOVED this book but one of the issues I had was I COULD put it down. It took me a while to get through it because either 1) I was in a reading funk or 2) The book had pauses.
  • I love books that leave you with a cliff-hanger. They make me excited for the next one. This book didn't have the cliff-hanger or the HUGE twist in the end that you don't see coming. NOW please keep this in mind: I took a lot of breaks and I took one near the end so the BIG TWIST might have happened before I put it down. In that case the book has wonderful twists!

Overall:

You should know I was really confused about this book. I also think you should know its a great book. I hope it comes across as me liking it because when I read it I was in weird reading mood.  I can't wait to read the next book!

The Liar Society by Lisa and Laura Roecker

Description: (GR Page)
Kate Lowry didn't think dead best friends could send e-mails. But when she gets an e-mail from Grace, she’s not so sure.

To: KateLowry@pemberlybrown.edu
Sent: Sun 9/14 11:59 PM
From: GraceLee@pemberlybrown.edu
Subject: (no subject)

Kate,
I'm here…
sort of.
Find Cameron.
He knows.
I shouldn't be writing.
Don't tell.
They'll hurt you.

Now Kate has no choice but to prove once and for all that Grace’s death was more than just a tragic accident. But secrets haunt the halls of her elite private school. Secrets people will do anything to protect. Even if it means getting rid of the girl trying to solve a murder...

Quotes:
"Overflowing Toilets, huh?". He laughs a little "Well technically it's not a lie. It was overflowing last week..."

"Fabre est suae quis que fortunae: Every man is the artison of hid own fortune"

Epic Wins:
  • Pemberly Brown, as far as schools go, is pretty darn awesome. A collection of buildings , cool Latin sayings on plaques, peaceful court yards, deeply hidden secrets and uh... ghosts?
  • Grace's Pearls (okay you already know I love these but still!) I love the idea of the old pearls being a reminder of Grace. It was like every time they thudded against her chest Kate was reminded why she was on this crazy quest. It also gave her courage, courage like Grace had.
  • Seth was such a hoot! He was always there, even when she didn't want him. Like a dog that follows you around relentlessly (and sometimes annoyingly) but always when you need him. I kind of felt bad for the kid, Kate used him to get what she wanted but it didn't phase him. Thats what I loved about him, his never ending friendship.
  • Liam...hmmm er uh yeah. He is one of those characters that you are always questioning... good or evil? None-the-less he is so cute! I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, like this kid... for so many reasons.
  • I loved how there was a flip from her present day to the previous fall.
  • Most books with two authors have separate points-of-view so things look to flow. The LiLa write the same character (Kate) and they do so perfectly. Kate felt like the same Kate the whole time.
  • This book presents loss. Loss should be sad and gloomy right? There was an air of gloom but the fabulous LiLa puts just enough humor and mystery that it is a joy to read but still teaches about life.
  • The twisty turns :P They just come out of no where! I am fairly sure this book will keep you on your toes (or just staring at the edge of your nose!). I was till the last page...
  • Kate is a puzzle just like the mystery of Grace's death. I have no way to put words together that will describe her perfectly but I can try. Determined, Witty, Clever, Kick-butt, Sad, Courageous, and all around amazing. There is something about Kate (no it isn't the pink hair) that I just connected to SO well.
  • For the sake of avoiding spoilers, spoilers, and more spoilers I have to zip my lips :P(er um keys??) Just know if you pick this book off the shelf you will be AMAZED!!
Epic Fails: Rambling about the lack of Fails
  • I thought we discussed this at the top? No? Okay let me spell it out for you. I tried really hard and sometime you just come up with nothing when a book is just that good. Please don't give me that look! You know I tried. Besides the one thing I didn't like I can't say because well it would leak spoilers, and even then there has to be a 'villain' and I can't tell you that . I will stop now :D Rambling is my weakness.
Overall: Brilliant with a heavy dash of humor. It covers love, friendship, and loss in one sweep! Remember when I said Revolution was my favorite? Yeah its sitting comfortably in second place now. I still think about this book all the time. Uh it might be useful to know that I read it in one sitting.  You have to think Nancy Drew and  Scooby-Doo meets privet school and pink hair. Except it's cooler on so many levels. Oh gosh! Just read it before I continue rambling.

Waiting on Wednesday: Epic Fail

Cover:

Descriptions: (GR)
At Coral Tree Prep in Los Angeles, who your parents are can make or break you. Case in point:

• As the son of Hollywood royalty, Derek Edwards is pretty much prince of the school—not that he deigns to acknowledge many of his loyal subjects.

• As the daughter of the new principal, new-girl-on-campus Elise Benton isn’t exactly on everyone’s must-sit-next-to-at-lunch list.

When Elise’s beautiful sister catches the eye of the prince’s best friend, Elise gets to spend a lot of time with Derek, making her the envy of every girl. Except she refuses to fall for any of his rare smiles and instead warms up to his enemy, the surprisingly charming social outcast Webster Grant. But in this hilarious tale of fitting in and flirting, not all snubs are undeserved, not all celebrity brats are bratty, and pride and prejudice can get in the way of true love for only so long. Fans of Susane Colasanti (When It Happens), Polly Shulman (Enthusiasm), and, of course, Jane Austen will love finding out if Elise’s love life will be an epic win or an epic fail

My Thoughts:

I think this is SUCH a cute sounding book! I really LOVE LOVE LOVE the title (ha its epic!) and the cover is adorable. I really love how its like a Pride and Prejudice remake! Too bad I have to wait till December to get it!

Epic Fail will be published on December 8th by HarperTeen.
