Do you ever feel like nobody gets it!?

Do you ever feel like nobody gets it!?

I love books, with a fierce passion (as most of you do!). The problem is outside of the blogger world very few people hold interest in the subject of books. When I read a book, I want to tell people about it, you know shout it to the world that this book was the most amazing thing you will ever read!!!!( I'll add some extra exclamation marks for ya) !!!!!!!!!!!! For example I try to explain a book to my mom and you can tell she loses interest in what I am saying or I will tell my dad about how I want to get this book or this one and he tunes me out.

I do however feel blessed to have a book lover like me in my family. My little brother, he and I are like mental twins. I can gush about why I loved the Iron king or Hush, Hush and he can say how awesome he thought the Harry Potter series was. This wasn't always the case though. There was point, and I was watching for it, when books clicked for him. I mean sure he read a book every once in a while but only when he HAD to. Something happened this year though, he tasted books and formed an addiction. An addiction that I helped along.

So when he only read a book once in a while , what was I to do? Keep the beautiful knowledge of these amazing books to myself? Nay, nay! I started this blog to show people who cared what I think about the books I read. I still feel frustrated that I can't talk to anybody about books but blogging takes the edge off the frustration. There is a problem with blogging though, my parents can't stand  that I am either reading, writing on the blog, or searching for books. They call me a nerd (which is understandable, I embrace the nerdiness) but it just hurts that nobody understands what I do. I just wish they could say "I'm glad you found something you are passionate about and I'm proud that you are sticking to it". Alas, no, the reply is more like "Oh your blogging again" in a smarmy voice.
Does anybody else feel this frustration? From parents, siblings, friends, or anybody? I do love blogging and I will never give it up (not till they pry the books from cold dead hands!!)... but I hate that nobody appreciates it. :(

Sorry for the rant and if you hung out to read it through I just want to say I love ya! (like one would love a pet dog not ) What are bloggers if they don't rant every once in a while?

just sayin,

  1. Oh I definitely agree! My younger brothers love reading too, but they're way more on the DL about it, because they don't want people to know they read. That doesn't make any sense to me, but oh well!
And none of my friends are avid readers, so I'm especially glad for the networking that blogging provides. It's like speaking a language that no one understands in real life. Weird, but kind of cool to be different, too :)

  2. I haven't mentioned it to my friends. Any of them. Even though they're even more bookish than I am! Or, well, they've been reading "for fun" for longer than I have. My family ('cept my sister since she's never home, it seems, and so she doesn't see the packages I receive) kind of just dismiss my love of books. Hehe. Sorry, I can't relate. >_<

  3. Don't worry, you're definitely not alone in feeling this way! That's why I think it's great that there are so many ways online, such as blogging or through other book communities, to chat with other fellow book lovers!

  4. I totally agree. It's hard when you don't have anyone to talk to. I have two younger brothers and they read, just not to the extent I do. I can still talk to them, but it's not the same when they don't really read the same books. My friends aren't massive readers either and like you, sometimes I just wanna discuss a book with someone so bad. Blogging has also helped me a little too.

  5. Yes! It get incredibly annoying because they have no idea what they are missing! None of my friends read and if I do get them to read a book it's like I'm torturing them! I love blogging because it lets me know I'm not the only book nerd out there!
Great post! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's family and friends don't get book love :)
