Sleepless by Cyn Balog

Description:

Eron DeMarchelle isn't supposed to feel this connection. He is a Sandman, a supernatural being whose purpose is to seduce his human charges to sleep. Though he can communicate with his charges in their dreams, he isn't encouraged to do so. After all, becoming too involved in one human's life could prevent him from helping others get their needed rest.

But he can't deny that he feels something for Julia, a lonely girl with fiery red hair and sad dreams. Just weeks ago, her boyfriend died in a car accident, and Eron can tell that she feels more alone than ever. Eron was human once too, many years ago, and he remembers how it felt to lose the one he loved. In the past, Eron has broken rules to protect Julia, but now, when she seems to need him more than ever, he can't reach her. Eron's time as a Sandman is coming to a close, and his replacement doesn't seem to care about his charges. Worse, Julia is facing dangers she doesn't recognize, and Eron, as he transitions back to being human, may be the only one who can save her. . . .

Even once they've become human again, Sandmen are forbidden to communicate with their charges. But Eron knows he won't be able to forget Julia. Will he risk everything for a chance to be with the girl he loves?

Cyn Balog's follow-up to Fairy Tale has more wit, more supernatural delights, and more star-crossed romance! Teen girls will love this story of a Sandman who falls in love with his human charge.

My thoughts:

We start with Julia. She was traumatized as a kid and still has the scars on her face to prove it. The whole world felt sorry for her and acted like she was too fragile.

Then she meets Griffin. The world is a joke to him. That is until he dies.

He and Julia had been going out for a while and he has made her strong, made her acceptable to the world. Julia takes his death lightly, no tears.

Enters Eron, short for a rather ridiculous name that I dare not even mention, is a stunning seventeen year old Sandman. He seduces women to sleep and protects them. They are not quiet dead but far from alive. Invisible to the human eye except in our dreams (which our eyes aren’t opens so this statement doesn’t make sense but I have not motive to change it) they sprinkle a dab of sand wave their hands and BAM were asleep!

Julia is one of Eron’s charges, or one of the girls he brings sleep to. But Eron’s time of serving as a sand man are up, it’s been 100 years and he ready to be human again. Funny thing is Griffin is his soon to be replacement.

This story is about a girl, her dead boyfriend, and her soon to be human, sandman. Serious damage is about to begin.

IN THE BEGINNING… it was a big fat bore (No, not the pig!). I mean the concept was the only thing keeping me from leaving the book and never returning. Luckily I did and boy was I rewarded! A big fat romance, of course, that is bound to shock and amaze. The story switches from Julia to Eron and back and forth. They each tell their story, Julia and her tragic accident and departed boyfriend, and Eron of his life in the 1900’s. They actually wind together nicely. The fact that Eron and Julia are falling in love just slaps icing on the cake. Their chemistry is undeniable. The middle of the book was like a build up that sucked you into the book. The end was a tragically misleading ending, I cried but I cry at a lot of things but mainly just good books. I recommend this book, it’s quick and cute!

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Description:

It’s after dark in New York City, and Clary Fray is seeing things. The best-looking guy in the nightclub just stabbed a boy to death – but the victim has vanished into thin air. Her mother has disappeared, and a hideous monster is lurking in her apartment. With her life spiralling into darkness, Clary realizes that she has stumbled into an invisible war between ancient demonic forces and the secretive Shadowhunters – a war in which she has a fateful role to play…

My Thoughts:

So I guess I jumped on this train a little late but better late than never right? This book left me feeling frustrated, frustrated and annoyed. You could say I am confused. I must clarify first that I like the book for the most part. I loved the characters, the hard core action, and the captivating world the author created. I don’t like the way thing panned out. It makes it feel gross and defiantly put an awkward spin on their relationship! The whole end of the book I was going “Ok now we are going to find out that it is different!” but to my horror I was wrong. So basically I thought the ending was bogus, in a nut shell.

What is the good news? I wont not give up on the series just yet!

Don’t get me wrong here I love the rest of the book but I REALLY like happy endings (though they may be fiction but that’s the point of books right?), that is usually what gets me through a series, knowing there is a possibility for a happy, smiling ending! I am probably just needing to get my rant out!

Frustrated and annoyed

This week I am waiting on....

PARANORMALCY!!!

[Back of the Book]:
Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.

Waiting on Wednesday: Iron Witch

Iron Witch:

Freak. That’s what they called seventeen year-old Donna Underwood in high school after a horrific fey attack that killed her father when she was just a child. Her injuries and rehabilitation resulted in magically enhanced strength, thanks to the iron tattoos branding her hands and arms. As a child of the alchemists, she is both blessed and cursed with a magical heritage that doesn't leave much room for boys, parties and homework.
Now, after ten years of wishing for a normal life, she finally has to accept her role in the centuries-old war against the darkest outcasts of Faerie: the Dark Elves. Aided by a gorgeous half-fey dropout, Donna must race to save her best friend’s life - even if it means betraying one of the world’s greatest secrets and confronting the very thing that destroyed her family.

This one is pretty incredable, in a dark creepy way, way excited for this one. Hope ya'll enjoy also let me know what you are waiting for!! Im dying to know!

Sophie knows it isn’t Jenna, so she is determined to clear her good name. Sophie mean while has to deal with a lot of other goings on.

  • A group of witches, when she refuses to join their coven make her life a lot on the difficult side
  •  Instant hatred by teachers and students alike because of her dad (whom to this day she has never met)
  • A CREEPTASTIC ghost who is following her
  • Her inability to perform magic
  • A crush on the totally-crush worthy Archer (an off-limits bad boy)

Sophie goes on an adventure she never expects. On the way she manages to find out more about her families’ past, discover herself, and attempts to defeat whatever evil is lurking in the halls of Hex!

Review:

Put on your giggle goggles, mix-up some mystery, and turn up the horror meter because this book rocked my flipping socks off. When I read I love the feeling of being in the book (not literally but I sure wish it!), and this book did that for me. I have been in book Acoma lately because of Hex hall, it isn’t fun not to want to read for so long but this book just tranquilized me. This new spin on magic is like a leap of faith but in Hawkins’s case she landed right on target. I love when books make you laugh, puzzle, and scare the crap out of you. So basically this book is it.

About those giggle goggles I was referring to, I kid you not every page of this book had a joke. I was laughing at midnight in my bed with my phone to light the pages because night came and passed and I still couldn’t help but read! Mixed in with the giggles was a lot of mystery, surprises or turns I wasn’t expecting came. I love when a book has you puzzling over the ending and what is next. Like why did Archer do that? And is she going to make it? Now brining up the memories of this particular book are sending me into a mind-blowing frenzy. There are several horror-verified scenes with in this book. Though the scenes are quick, if-you-blink-you-miss-them-scenes, they add to why I like the book. Killing demons, visiting the graveyard at midnight with a thought-to-be-ghost, and nearly getting killed by the very thing that tried to kill your friends, are just a few examples of the type of scenes.

just sayin,
-Kare

Inspiration, giveaway, and why the heck I happen to be slacking!

Okay so I've been a speed-demon reader since at least kindergarten. I was scared (like pee-your-pants-in-a-weird-little-kid-way) to go to kindergarten because my brother said you have to read alot. I didn't know how to read so thus I was TERRIFIED! Turns out I was like in an advance reading program and like five steps ahead of the other kids in my grade (I was so cool as a little kid)! So my love for reading just blossomed with my skills ( killer reading skills! I was reading ninja!). I guess what inspired me to read new stuff was my eighth grade SCIENCE teacher!? Sound weird but she always gave me new books to read and asked me what I thought about them. I actually talked with her this past year ( my little bro has her now) and she always thought I would be a good book editor. So here is to Mrs. Kwant Thanks!

So ya'll should check out this contest because it helps support literacy and you could get two prizes! read all about it here!

UPDATE...
In other news I haven't sent out a review for awhile because I have been playing babysitter big sister. I have finished Hex hall and have written my review its just the matter of getting it typed now. Up next (my pictures on the side lie as of now I have been wishy wash trying to settle into a new book I've seriously changed 10 times!) is City of Bones! :)

This weeks question is do you listen to music when you read?

NO! I can't stand that, I like peace and quiet when I read (something about trying to hear myself think). If you can listen to music when you read I give you props (although I can walk and read, its hard at first because you run into stuff but once you get use to it its kind of fun).

Waiting on Wednesday: Wither

Withered by Lauren Destefano

Cover:
Description:
What if you knew exactly when you would die?

Thanks to modern science, every human being has become a ticking genetic time bomb—males only live to age twenty-five, and females only live to age twenty. In this bleak landscape, young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamous marriages to keep the population from dying out.
When sixteen-year-old Rhine Ellery is taken by the Gatherers to become a bride, she enters a world of wealth and privilege. Despite her husband Linden's genuine love for her, and a tenuous trust among her sister wives, Rhine has one purpose: to escape—to find her twin brother and go home.

But Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. Linden's eccentric father is bent on finding an antidote to the genetic virus that is getting closer to taking his son, even if it means collecting corpses in order to test his experiments. With the help of Gabriel, a servant she trusts, Rhine attempts to break free, in the limited time she has left.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Unidentified

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

So I have been scouring the wide world of internet for this week’s WOW and funny thing I ran into it without even meaning to! I love when that happens. I also absolutely love dystopian books. Some examples Inside out, Hunger Games, Matched (haven’t read it yet) and so on. So when I bumped into this book I got all giddy and ready to buy it. As luck would have it isn’t out yet. Then I was thinking it would be perfect for waiting on Wednesday! [I know this is killing you so without further ado I introduce to you]

The Unidentified!

Description: (from HarperTeen) Fifteen-year-old Katey (aka Kid) goes to school in the Game—a mall converted into a "school" run by corporate sponsors. As students play their way through the levels, they are also creating products and being used for market research by the Game's sponsors, who are watching them 24/7 on video cameras.
Kid has a vague sense of unease but doesn't question this existence until one day she witnesses a shocking anticorporate prank. Intrigued, she follows the clues to uncover the identity of the people behind it. They are a group who call themselves the Unidentified. Drawn to their counterculture ideas and their enigmatic leader, Kid begins to spend more time with them. But when the Unidentified pranks get co-opted by the corporate sponsors, Kid decides to do something bigger—something that could change the Game forever.

So when does it come out? 10/5/2010
